Agency Update: DARPA Announces 2021 Young Faculty Award Proposers Day

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) will be holding a proposers day webcast on September 25, 2020 in anticipation of releasing its 2021 Young Faculty Award Program (YFA) research announcement (RA). DARPA’s YFA program aims to expose rising stars in junior faculty or equivalent positions at academic and non-profit research institutions to the Department of Defense’s (DOD) mission, challenges, and needs.  DARPA specifically seeks to attract and fund candidates without prior DARPA funding and anticipates soliciting 2021 YFA research proposals in the areas of “physical sciences, engineering, materials, mathematics, biology, computing, informatics, social science, robotics, neuroscience and manufacturing of interest to DARPA’s Technology Offices.”

The proposers day will be held via a prerecorded webcast on September 25, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET to introduce the YFA’s visions and goals, encourage networking and collaboration, and review DARPA program expectations.  Registration will close on September 18, 2020 at 4:00 PM ET, or when capacity is reached, whichever comes first.  The 2021 YFA is expected to be released in September 2020 on http://www.grants.gov/ and https://beta.sam.gov/.  Registration for the proposers day, as well as eligibility and program information, can be found here. The full proposers day announcement can be found on https://beta.sam.gov/ under notice ID “DARPA-SN-20-63.” Lewis-Burke will continue to monitor for when the YFA RA is released.
