ASPB has joined a coalition of scientific organizations, led by the American Psychological Association, in signing onto a letter that serves as a powerful, collective statement from the signatories. The letter, which will be published in the next print issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education, emphasizes the importance of science and lets members of the research community know that the organizations are going to stand up for them and their work.
“It has never been more important to recommit to scientific knowledge, and to ensure you have access to data, are free from censorship, and are able to do your valuable work,” the letter states.
In a series of commitments directed to members of the scientific community, supporting organizations promise to continue advocating for scientific funding, educating the public about science free from bias, and working to ensure researchers have the “resources they need to pursue research with autonomy and integrity, including critical datasets.”
This commitment to the scientific community from ASPB comes on the heels of the Society’s recent statement reaffirming its dedication to “robustly supporting and strongly advocating for diversity and inclusion in the plant sciences.”
