ASPB Joins Call to Protect the Future of Science

ASPB joined the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and 47 other scientific organizations in a letter to members of Congress demanding that they protect federally funded scientific research and federal scientists. The letter asks Congress to “take immediate action to protect and restore life-saving and essential scientific research that benefits American families and communities.”

The funding pauses and cuts by the current administration have already impacted scientists and their ability to advance their critical work and will have long-lasting impacts on the research landscape in the United States. “The suspension of congressionally mandated efforts to broaden participation in science and technology is hampering our ability to produce the next generation of talent essential to our global competitiveness,” the letter states.

The letter requests immediate action from Congress to allow science to move forward in the US, including opposing drastic workforce reductions, enforcing legislative control over congressionally approved federal funds, restoring canceled funding streams, and more.
