ASPB Joins Call for Increased USDA Program Funding

On February 4, 2025, ASPB joined more than 40 organizations in urging Congress to increase crucial US Department of Agriculture (USDA) program funding in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26). In a letter to Congressional leadership, ASPB and others outline how USDA programs “support America’s farmers, improve the security of our food supply, and restore our nation’s agricultural communities.”

Citing the significant economic impact of the food and agriculture sector, the letter describes how USDA programs fund work that impacts every American. “Consumers rely on a safe, affordable, and nutritious food supply. USDA nutrition programs work to end hunger across the United States and improve the health of all Americans. Science-based food safety programs protect public health by ensuring the U.S. food supply is among the safest in the world. As consumers are faced with rising food costs these programs are more important than ever,” the letter states.

To remain a robust industry that continues to meet the nation’s economic, environmental, food safety, and nutrition needs, the food and agriculture sectors must innovate. “The food and agriculture sector relies on USDA research and extension programs to deliver science and innovation to our farmers and ranchers, giving them the tools needed to improve economic and environmental sustainability,” the letter states.
