Request for Concurrent Symposium Proposals for Plant Biology 2022

We are looking forward to Plant Biology 22, a meeting organized jointly by the Canadian and American societies of plant biology, returning to a primarily in-person format in Portland.

New for this year, the ASPB/CSPB/SCBV Program Committee is soliciting proposals from the community to convene and organize concurrent symposia. The Program Committee will evaluate the proposals and select the ones that will best help to create an interesting, impactful, and well-balanced overall program.

If you are interested in convening a concurrent symposium, please prepare a proposal that addresses these key points:

  • Title
  • Convener’s name, job title, affiliation, and contact information
  • Description of the topic to be covered. Provide enough detail to permit the committee to evaluate the proposed content and its relevance

All submissions must be received by November 5, 2021, and all decisions will be made and communicated before the end of that month. Please submit here. If you have questions, please send an email to jean@aspb.org.

Each concurrent session has five 15-minute slots, along with 3 minutes allocated for an introduction.  Please identify the possible speakers for your session. If desired, conveners may speak during their session, but there is no requirement for them to do so.

If selected and after the specifics are approved by the Program Committee, conveners are responsible for identifying, inviting, and confirming speakers for their session.  We ask that proposed speakers be excellent communicators and cover the full gamut of career stages and places of work. We also ask that you pay careful attention to diversity and therefore include speakers who reflect the breadth of both societies’ communities. Speakers should not have spoken at a Plant Biology conference in the past couple of years, so the Program Committee will need to review and approve (or propose modifications) to the proposed slate of speakers before any formal invitations are issued to them.

Up to 12 sessions will be selected, and organizers will be granted one free registration to Plant Biology 2022. All speakers must submit an abstract and register for the meeting. Limited funds may be available to defray costs as needed on a case-by-case basis.  You do not have to be an ASPB or CSPB/SCBV member to submit a concurrent symposium, but preference will be given to ASPB and CSPB/SCBV members.

Best,

Program Committee
